About Me

As a Designer/Maker of fine, handcrafted furniture and cabinetry it is my singular aim to create pieces that simultaneously ease and enrich the lives of those I create them for. Working in whatever style appeals to each clients personality, I focus on creating objects that are beautiful in use and in rest. I employ time tested joinery and finishing methods to ensure that the piece I craft for you will live on for generations to come.

I have a passion for furniture. Whatever shape, size or style, I find myself drawn in by the details as they relate to each other, the materials used and ultimately the space that surrounds them.  As part of our every day life, we interact with furniture in ways unlike almost anything else. We take in every aspect of a piece of furniture and make judgments about it, how it looks, how it feels and makes us feel and ultimately how comfortable and functional it is, all with little to no conscious effort. Furniture is every day art, from the finest Chippendale Highboy to a discount store folding chair and we either like it or we don't.
I enjoy the challenge that comes with making furniture from all periods and styles, whether it be the earliest pilgrim forms or those of the most innovative contemporary designs. I love the challenge of creating something that is as beautiful as it is functional.  The entire process from design, to building, to finishing is exciting to me and each project or piece is as unique as the person I am building it for.
In addition to furniture, I build cabinetry for the kitchen and bath, as well as built in cabinetry including bookcases and entertainment centers. Because I regularly work with residential clients, designers, and in commercial areas, I often take on projects that fall outside of these areas, so do not hesitate to ask about something not represented on this site.

Design
An unflinching commitment to quality design is paramount in all the work I do. During the design process I utilize both hand drawing and drafting, as well as two and three dimensional computer software. This method ensures a quick conceptual understanding and a detailed blueprint to follow.

Craftsmanship   I am a craftsman, and I take my craft very seriously. I build with the expectation that each piece will be as beautiful and useful in 200 years as it is now. To assure the finest results both hand and power tools are used to dimension and shape the wood. I favor the use of traditional joinery such as the mortise and tenon and dovetail joints which are usually superior in strength and beauty to modern fasteners.

Materials    Without the right materials, the best design, and most exacting craftsmanship will still yield an inferior product.
I use only the finest, responsibly harvested woods whenever possible. The finish on most pieces is done using modern, low VOC water based dyes, stains and coatings. The exceptions to this are period reproductions where a traditional finish is used to maintain historical accuracy.
